Description

On June 16 of each year we relive the footsteps of Leopold Bloom, a character in the work of James Joyce of Ulysses reciting selected passages.

“ Ulysses” by James Joyce has been considered the best English-language novel of the 20th century, being one of the most influential, discussed and renowned.

We start the tour at the Gresham Hotel where before the meeting those who wish can have the same breakfast as Bloom.

In our tour we visited the emblematic scenes of the work and analyzed the parallels (linguistic, rhetorical and symbolic) between the Ulysses of Homer and James Joyce, the vital organs characterized in each chapter, the colors and deepest thoughts and experiences of their characters.

Half of the day we went by bus to the places around Dublin mentioned in the work visited by both Bloom (Old Joyce) and Dedalus (young man). Sandycove's Martello Tower, Sandymount Beach, Eccles Street where the house was, Glasnevin Cemetery, Ormond Hotel among others. The other half of the day we revived on foot the places of Chapter 7 and 8 in the center of the city because they are the most accessible because of their proximity. We will pass by O'Connell Street where the Freema's Journal was located, where Nelson's Pillar was the one that the two spinsters went up, O'Connell Bridge where he crumbled the Brambury apple cupcakes, where was the Burton restaurant that he so disgusted, and by Davy Byrnes where he took a glass of sherry and a toast with gorgonzola cheese.

We will also go to the National Library, James Joyce center and generally choose places where this day will be celebrated to enjoy it to the fullest.

We recommend: 1.- Bring vintage hats and costumes. 2.- Bring a copy of the work. 3.- And also bring the swimsuit and towel to revive the dip in the “" fourty foot "” next to the Martelo tower.
